Banana

Musa sp.

Banana

Many bananas can be grown as tender perennials in northern climates. Plants grow fast producing big and bold, often colorful leaves. Bananas do best in full to part sun in moist soil. Bananas can be overwintered by digging the root, cutting back the stem to about 6 inches, and storing like a canna. The Japanese Fiber Banana (M. basjoo) is one of the hardiest, being hardy down to 0°F when covered with ample mulch.
