Summer Fun for Kids

Most kids can't wait until school is out. Then when summer break finally arrives, they're bored within a few weeks.

Prevent the "I'm bored" syndrome this summer by checking out some of the organized youth activities offered in your community.

Park districts may sponsor day camps, summer swim programs, and instructional sports clinics. Community colleges and universities offer a wide array of programs for youth - from creative writing to computers.

The YMCA, Boy Scouts, and Girl Scouts also offer camps and other learning opportunities for children of various ages.

University of Illinois Extension offers Camp Clover, a free day camp for youth ages 8 to 12. 4-H Camp is another opportunity for kids who are ready for an overnight camping experience. And, 4-H clubs give youth a chance to learn life skills, participate in community service, and develop their leadership skills.
