Dale Kehr has been dedicated to working with low income residents and organizations for the last 13.5 years in Lake County and recently expanding to McHenry County. She has been very instrumental in bringing nutrition into schools through the use of reading, writing and math skills while incorporating the Common Core Standards. Over the past four years she has worked with the Waukegan School District with their PEP Grant, a federally funded grant targeted to reduce students' BMI scores while increasing their physical activity.
She received her Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Maryland – Asian Division while on active duty with the Navy. Dale reached the rank of Chief Hospital Corpsman and has worked in hospitals and clinical settings doing various tasks to promote health and wellness to both active duty and civilians. Her most memorable tour was working in the OB/GYN Clinic teaching basic nutrition to pregnant women and their partners in Okinawa, Japan.
Currently she has been involved with a research project that integrates nutrition information and media literacy into the common core standards. The project is called "Making Media for a Healthier U". Another project that she is passionate about is the Summer Learn and Grow Program that teaches high school students to garden, cook and creates healthy media messages. The program targets low-income High School Students to keep them physically active and academically engaged over the summer months.
Professional organizations include Illinois and National Extension Association for Family and Consumer Sciences (IEAFCS & NEAFCS), Association for Talent Development (ATD the former ASTD), Society for Nutrition Education and Behavior (SNEB). She has received two team Awards of Excellence for her work promoting health and nutrition. She was inducted into the University of Illinois Extension, Lake County's Hall of Fame in 2012.
