Kelly Allsup is the University of Illinois Horticulture Educator serving the communities in Livingston, McLean and Woodford counties. Kelly is responsible for offering leadership, developing community programs and providing expertise in Horticulture and Environmental Sciences. She will contribute to the training and educational needs of the Master Gardener and Master Naturalist program in the Livingston, McLean and Woodford Unit. Her primary focus and interests are organic methods of gardening, beneficial insects and pollinators and vegetable gardening.
She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Horticulture and Master of Science in Natural Resources and Environmental Sciences from the University of Illinois. As a graduate student, she assisted in teaching floral design and worked at the University of Illinois Arboretum and Hartley Annual Trial Garden.
Before joining Extension, Kelly was a Research Greenhouse Specialist for the University of Illinois where she grew an abundance of corn, soybeans and miscanthus for professors and researchers and spent time as a grower in a retail greenhouse. She also served as an assistant manager for the University of Illinois Plant Biology Greenhouse and Conservatory and spent time as a wedding floral designer. Her expertise includes Greenhouse Management and Production, Integrated Pest Management and General Horticulture.
Kelly developed her love for nature in the pine forests of East Texas where she grew up with her twin and triplet sister. Kelly considers herself half scientist and half artist and is enthusiastic about being an educator for the community. She is ready to take what she has learned and use it to benefit the citizens of this area.
