There is no need to be in the dark about growing mushrooms. These tasty chameleons of the food world are low-fat, low-calorie and filled with vitamins, anti-oxidants and other nutrients. Mushrooms can be grown by anyone, from backyard gardeners to commercial producers. Requirements for growth are minimal, their life cycles are shorter, they do not compete with other plants and the return on investment can be profitable. Cultivated species are sold in specialty shops and supermarkets.

University of Illinois staff will present mushroom production guidelines and hands- on activities. This workshop is appropriate for backyard gardeners and commercial producers.

Plan to attend Grow Your Own Mushrooms at University of Illinois Extension, Kankakee County, 1650 Commerce Drive, Bourbonnais, IL 60914. The fee for this workshop is $10 per person.

Pre-registration is required by October 10, 2019. This workshop fills up quickly and space is limited. Stop by the office to register with cash or check.  For more information, please call Kankakee County Extension Office at 815/933-8337.
