Extension will be hosting a free workshop on sheep and goat parasite management on Saturday, Oct. 26 at the Campbell Hill Community Center.

One of the greatest challenges for sheep and goat producers is preventing and controlling internal parasites in their animals. This workshop will start with the basics of understanding parasite life cycles and then give tips on how to better manage sheep and goats to prevent internal parasite infections.

Workshop at a glance:

  • Effects of parasites on herd production
  • Nutritional interactions
  • Internal parasites- general life cycle, epizootiology, abomasal worms, small intestinal worms, large intestinal worms
  • Diagnostic methods- general appearance/sings, fecal egg count, blood packed cell volume, anemia and FAMACHA®, worm count, identification
  • Dewormers (Anthelmintics)- classes, formulas, administration, resistance
