Rain gardens are becoming increasingly popular in the home and commercial landscapes. A rain garden is a natural or dug shallow depression designed to capture and soak up stormwater runoff from your roof or other impervious areas around your home like driveways, walkways, and even compacted lawn areas. The rain garden is planted with suitable trees, shrubs, flowers, and other plants allowing runoff to soak into the ground and protect water quality. Please join us for a presentation on this topic by Kaizad Irani. The presentations will be followed by a discussion. Bring your lunch and your questions. No question too big or too small. Come, learn and have fun.

Invited expert: With over 25 years of experience, Kaizad Iranihas a rich background that includes landscaping design and construction, landscape and business instruction, management and sales, and greenhouse management. Kaizad is a retired professor and program director at Parkland College.  He continues to teach at the University of Illinois. For his work in the community, Kaizad was recognized by the Illinois Association of Park Districts and the Illinois Park and Recreation Association with their Outstanding Local Community Service Award.  In 2006, he was recognized for his pedagogy by the American Technical Education Association with the Outstanding Technical Teacher Award.   He was also awarded the Outstanding Teacher Award for the State of Illinois in 2019.  His landscapes have been recognized frequently, however, Kaizad is most proud of being the designer for the award-winning landscape design for the World Trade Center Memorial Park in New York City and the Healing Garden at St. Jude Children's Cancer Hospital in Memphis, TN.
