Don’t miss this chance for a fun overnight event where you’ll explore everything available in Illinois 4-H and start your leadership journey. Planned and organized by the Illinois State 4-H Youth Leadership Team, this weekend, overnight conference for 7th and 8th grade 4-H members offers you a chance to explore new 4-H project areas, learn activities and games you can take home to your own 4-H clubs, learn and practice new leadership skills, and meet teens your age from across the state.

Hop on board and get your passport stamped at the 2020 Illinois 4-H Junior Leadership Conference. It all happens February 22-23 at the Keller Convention Center in Effingham.

Times:

  • Check In: 10 – 11 AM, Saturday, Feb. 22
  • Pick Up: by 11:45 AM, Sunday, Feb. 23

  • Flying into the Virtual World: Explore STEM with 4-H! Take a trip to Europe, South American, and Africa through the world of Virtual Reality. Put your problem-solving skills to work and help solve international problems in the form of fun engineering challenges! Come work with 4-H to explore the world of technology that surrounds us and those in other countries.
  • Tacky Tourist Trivia: Explore the world of trivia with your tacky tourist guides. Throughout the trivia tour, you will test your knowledge of the world, 4-H, pop culture, and more as you work with your team to win the Tacky Tourist Trivia Tournament
  • Weathering the Storm of Agriculture: Are you experiencing the calm before the storm? Do you know how weather and agriculture affect one another? Come and see the impact of both agriculture and weather across the globe.
  • Follow Our Lead: Follow our lead as we take a trip to India to learn and practice dancing fusion style. On our journey, we will experience the culture and rich history this dance has to offer.
  • Pass the Plate: This workshop is your gateway to nutrition around the world. We will be exploring international diets, learning about the components of proper nutrition and completing a food science experiment.
  • Community Service: Join us in learning more about food insecurity in Illinois and across the globe. We will also be packaging meals to distribute across the state.

Eligibility

Open to any Illinois 4-H member in the 7th or 8th grade. Registration is limited to 100 youth and available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Chaperone Application

Register here to be considered as a chaperone. Applicants must be at least 21 years of age and must be up-to-date on all volunteer training requirements. There is no cost for chaperones; your cost is covered by the Illinois 4-H Foundation. To keep costs for the conference as low as possible, chaperones will share a room with one other chaperone. You may request your preferred chaperone roommate (not a youth participant). The selection process for chaperones will be determined by the following factors:

  1. Your trainings and screenings must be current and on file at the local Extension office
  2. If there are more applicants than what is needed for this event, applicants will be selected by the order in which they registered online
  3. Applicants selected to chaperone will be notified a few weeks before the event.
