Join University of Illinois Extension Livingston County Master Gardeners and the Catherine V. Yost House Museum for a program on planting garlic in the fall garden. This program requires attendees to wear a mask, practice social distancing, and use of hand sanitizer before participating.

Master Gardeners will host a booth outside the home located at 298 W. Water Street, Pontiac, from 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, September 19. Visitors will receive goodie bags with garlic bulbs, a growing sheet, and recipe cards.

Livingston County Master Gardener Cathy Montgomery will lead the program demonstrating braiding garlic for curing and storage, and illustrate the growing requirements for a bounty of garlic. Montgomery likes growing it because it is easy and she wants the vibrant flavors of home grown garlic to use in cooking.

Extension Horticulture Educator Kelly Allsup says, “Growing garlic in your own home garden year after year gives gardeners their own unique variety suited to your garden.”

The Livingston County Master Gardeners will share their gardening experiences alongside the Yost House historical garden.
