You don’t have to be a gardening expert to become a Master Gardener. All you need is an interest in gardening, some time to volunteer in the community, and a desire to share your knowledge with others. The program is more about connections; connecting people with other gardeners, with their community, and with reliable resources for information. Once connections are forged, it’s time to get sowing and growing in our many meaningful community projects.

Class will start on January 25, 2021 Register here

$300 registration includes the Master Gardener manual.

Details about the online format

  • The 2020 Master Gardener Online Training will include 13 modules - an introduction and 12 subject-areas.
  • Module topics include: Introduction; Botany; Soils and Fertilizers; Plant Diseases; Entomology; Integrated Pest Management; Annuals and Perennials; Trees, Shrubs and Woody Vines; Lawns; Small and Tree Fruits; Vegetables; Composting/Organic Gardening; and Living with Wildlife.
  • Each module will consist of several videos; therefore, a strong internet connection is highly recommended.
  • Each module includes an online quiz. As appropriate quiz questions are included after the video concerning that topic rather than all quiz questions at end of module. Final exam is also online.
  • The online training is designed to be viewed on a desktop, laptop, or tablet. Because the training is video-based, a strong internet connection is highly recommended.
  • Some of the modules will also have a resource section that will include downloadable and printable documents that can complement the training. Trainees should know how to download documents.
  • Training is self-paced and trainees can take classes (modules) in any order once they have completed the Introduction. Therefore, they could mirror what classes are being taught in local face-to-face training.
  •  If a trainee spends at least 4 hours per week on the training, it will take estimated 14 weeks to complete the training. Training is set to go live January 25th.
  • It can be completed any time of day or night. Each module consists of several videos and an online quiz; therefore, a strong internet connection is highly recommended. It is recommended that participants set aside about 4 hours per week for videos, reading manual and completing quizzes and the training for the 14 weeks.
