Deborah Seiler is leading the design and launch of a new Extension & Public Engagement Connection Center (EPECC) to strengthen the University of Illinois’ positive impact on the state. EPECC will be a portal for faculty and staff system-wide to connect with the Illinois Extension network for applied research, public engagement, and broader impact.
Deborah serves on the Illinois Extension Leadership Team and UIUC Faculty Senate Committee on Public Engagement, and founded the UIUC Outreach & Engagement Professionals Network (OEPN). She is a passionate advocate for incorporating evidence-based outreach and engagement strategies into public programs, to better help participants achieve their goals for healthy families, clean environments, and strong communities.
Deborah has provided statewide leadership to university extension programs for ten years. Initially joining Wisconsin Extension as a specialist in environmental behavior change campaigns, she coordinated social marketing research and outreach for the Wisconsin Aquatic Invasive Species Partnership (2011-2014). Deborah has also served as the Communications Director of California Sea Grant (2014-2017) and Chief Communications Officer of Illinois Extension (2017-2018). She is a proud AmeriCorps alum.
