Jamita Brown is a 4-H Youth Development Educator in  Will County. She believes that in order to understand her passion for youth without knowing her story would be robbery. She is a Illinois resident who was born and raised in South Carolina. Her story of purpose began after she attended a 4 day workshop in high school that helped prepare high performing low-income students for college. During this workshop, she was able to dig deep into her story and unpack childhood trauma, emotional, & physical abuse that she had faced in her lifetime. This experience was the first time that someone had positioned themselves to help her sort through her emotions. This experience ignited her drive in permeating youth spaces so that youth could feel comfort and develop skills for resiliency and positive self-image.

Jamita acquired a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish from Charleston Southern University in Charleston, South Carolina. During this time, she also worked with  Peer Forward a college and career readiness program, 211 Hotline a national resource & suicide prevention hotline, and WINGS for Kids a social and emotional wellness after-school program. These experiences influenced Jamita to go to The Citadel,The Military School of South Carolina and acquire her Master of Education in Counselor Education. During her experiences at The Citadel, Jamita served as a school counselor intern at a Title I middle school and elementary school. Jamita holds a School Counselor certification in South Carolina and is soon to acquire her Illinois Educator License. These experiences make Jamita an expert on children and youth's mental & emotional health.

Prior to moving to Illinois, Jamita worked in several roles at Kids On Point a sports based youth development organization based in downtown Charleston, SC. She began as an AmeriCorps VISTA then advanced to Academic Success Coordinator and lastly to Program Director. During these experiences, Jamita learned youth development strategy, curriculum development, grant writing, volunteer management, and non-profit structural strategy.

As a Youth Development Educator, Jamita strives to utilize all of previous experiences to help youth and youth of color to experience spaces cultured to make them feel safe and secure within their gifts, skills, personalities, and SKIN. Her primary focuses are in helping develop the whole child & helping to prepare them for their futures. Bulk of her programming focuses on self-exploration through STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics), financial literacy, career readiness, social and emotional skill development, and mental, physical, & nutritional health. She also believes that it's her duty to help youth leaders navigate in creating those same welcoming experiences for people & to bombard any biases or ill perspective towards people of color.

Jamita is also a children's book author and visual content strategist for her own home based business.
