Washington D.C. – Matias Habib of Kendall County was selected to represent 4-H as a delegate in the 2025 National Ag Day Student Leadership Program held in Washington D.C. Sponsored by the Agriculture Council of America (ACA), the program engages young leaders in raising awareness about the agricultural industry’s role in society and the economy.
Matias was one of three 4-H representatives recommended for the program, which brings together students from 4-H, FFA, AFA, and MANRRS to advocate for agriculture and meet with national stakeholders.
“I gained plenty of experience with creating meaningful connections with others in agriculture and bettering my communication skills in general,” says Matias.
Participants visited Washington, D.C., where they met industry leaders and policymakers, toured key agricultural institutions, and engaged in discussions on agricultural policy and leadership.
“I can use the skills I practiced during this experience to connect with potential internships and make contacts in my career,” adds Matias.
About Illinois 4-H: Illinois 4-H is the flagship youth development program of University of Illinois Extension and administered through the College of Agriculture, Consumer, and Environmental Sciences. 4-H grows true leaders, youth who are empowered for life today and prepared for a career tomorrow. The hands-on approach in 4-H gives young people guidance, tools, and encouragement, and then puts them in the driver’s seat to make great things happen. Independent research confirms the unparalleled impact of the 4-H experience, demonstrating that young people are four times more likely to contribute to their communities, two times more likely to make healthier choices, two times more likely to be civically active, and two times more likely to participate in STEM programs.
