Every year, Master Naturalists host a variety of events in collaboration with the Macon County Conservation District. In August, volunteers coordinate activities and help band birds at the Hummingbird Festival. This event is an opportunity for volunteers to engage with the public and share a sense of wonder about being able to hold the tiny, magical birds before releasing them.
The Monarch Madness celebration in September gives adults and children the opportunity to learn about their cross-continental migration, tag butterflies to track them, and explore opportunities to support pollinators.
Master Naturalists also help the community keep organic materials out of landfills, where they produce the greenhouse gas methane through the Pumpkin Smash.
