Each year, Master Naturalists partner with local Soil and Water Conservation Districts to bring hands-on learning to youth during Conservation Field Days. Students in grades 4–6 rotate through sessions where they explore topics like pollinators, trees, wildlife, soil health, and water conservation. Volunteers choose a topic and lead interactive lessons designed to spark curiosity and help students connect classroom learning with the natural world around them.
From identifying tree rings to discovering the importance of healthy soil, these sessions give students a chance to see nature through a new lens. By the end of the event, hundreds of young people leave with a better understanding of natural resources and why caring for them matters. The enthusiasm of the students reminds us that small experiences in nature can plant the seeds for a lifelong appreciation of the environment.
