Demonstration Garden to reduce stormwater runoff

Project Focus
Native Plants

Water mitigation is an issue in Mt. Vernon, with some parking lots directing water into city streets. A recent heavy downpour has prompted the Master Naturalist to consider a demonstration rain garden with native plants to promote the practice in Jefferson County. A rain garden demonstration garden will be established this fall. Master Naturalists have volunteered to help learn this process and to establish the garden at the Extension office, located near multiple parking lots within the city limits.
