Invasive Species removal at Spring Creek Preserve

Project Focus
Invasive Species
Native Plants
Conservation

At Spring Creek Preserve, Master Naturalist volunteers are making steady progress restoring native habitats through hands-on invasive species removal. Since winter 2023, volunteers have dedicated monthly workdays to clearing invasive plants such as autumn olive, Japanese bush honeysuckle, multiflora rose, garlic mustard, and oriental bittersweet.

Their consistent efforts are paying off; each season brings fewer invasive plants and more opportunities for native species to recover and thrive. This work not only improves the ecological health of Spring Creek Preserve but also serves as a model for community-led land stewardship across Tazewell County.
