Master Naturalist volunteers in Marshall County play an important role in connecting local youth and community members with nature through hands-on environmental education and conservation projects. One of their signature projects is maintaining the native plant garden at the Toluca Jumbo, which showcases Illinois native species and provides habitat for pollinators and other wildlife. Volunteers also organize an annual spring field trip day that welcomes more than 200 students to the park for interactive learning experiences focused on natural resources and ecology.

During a recent event, students had a unique opportunity to observe frog life cycles firsthand. The park pond was filled with tadpoles, allowing volunteers to teach students about amphibian development, wetland ecosystems, and the importance of healthy aquatic habitats.
