This Master Naturalist group has been growing community awareness about the importance of native plant species. Several years ago, we partnered with Grand Prairie Friends to establish a native plant plot. What started as a small demonstration garden has become an evolving showcase of prairie and woodland species. Each year, volunteers add new plants, expanding both the diversity and the educational value of the site. Every plant is labeled, allowing visitors to learn plant names, recognize familiar species, and discover the benefits that native plants provide to pollinators, wildlife, and soil health. The plot has become a living classroom where passersby can see firsthand how native plants thrive and contribute to biodiversity.
Through this project, volunteers are not only beautifying the space but also inspiring conversations about conservation and ecological stewardship. With the ongoing support of Grand Prairie Friends, this partnership continues to highlight how small plantings can make a big impact.
