Pike County is home to the New Philadelphia National Historic Site. New Philadelphia was the first U.S. town platted and registered by an African American. After the town was founded, Free Frank Mcworter purchased freedom for himself and 15 family members.

This valuable site serves as a reminder of local history. Master Naturalist volunteers have aided in creating and maintaining a pollinator plot at the welcome pavilion and along self-guided Augmented Reality pathways. This maintenance fills a need to beautify the natural environment, along with the history on-site. This pollinator plot has become part of the National Park System.
