Have you ever wondered how pizza ingredients are grown? Join us for a hands-on introduction to gardening where participants will create a take-home Pizza Garden starter kit featuring tomatoes, herbs, and other pizza-inspired ingredients. Herbs will be a special focus as participants explore the many ways they can be used—not only in cooking, but also in creative projects and other items that can be shared, displayed, or sold.
Open to youth ages 8 and older (as of 9/1/26).
Location: Okawville Farmers Market - Old Exchange National Bank Parking Lot - 110 E. Walnut Street, Okawville, IL 4:00-5:00 p.m.
This Pizza & Herb Adventure workshop is the second program in the 4-H Market Makers series, a hands-on journey exploring gardening, baking, art, and entrepreneurship. During the workshop, youth will discover herb-inspired products they could create for a future 4-H Youth Market Day and will make one herb-themed item to take home. From crafts and artwork to recipe mixes and other creative products, participants will begin exploring how a simple garden product can become something unique to share or sell. Throughout the series, youth will have opportunities to grow plants from seed, create baked goods and handmade items, and learn basic marketing, pricing, and customer service skills. At the culminating 4-H Youth Market Day, participants will put those skills into action by showcasing and selling their products while gaining confidence, leadership, and real-world business experience.
