The Illinois Natural History Survey Spring Bird Count has been conducted by volunteers each May in Illinois since 1972. This information serves as the foundation for the Spring Bird Count reports. The resulting data show which species are thriving, which are struggling, and how other factors, such as climate, habitat, and human activities, influence these patterns.
The data generated from the Spring Bird Count can be used to estimate changes in populations of species throughout the state. A Master Naturalist volunteer collects and compiles data for Macoupin County.
