Free Pressure Canner Testing offered

Enjoy the freshness of produce all year long when you preserve your food safely!  University of Illinois Extension offers free pressure canner gauge and seal testing at your local Extension office.  We have offices in Oglesby, Ottawa, Princeton, and Henry.

Ensure your home canning is safe.  Have your gauge tested annually to make sure it’s operating at the correct pressure.  Inaccurate pressure can cause food not to be processed at a high enough temperature to kill harmful bacteria and toxins.

This year, call Susan Glassman at 815-224-0889 to schedule a drop-off.  Your gauge and lid will be tested.  We will call you with the results.  After, pick up your equipment, and have the peace-of-mind you are preserving at the correct pressure and temperature.

If you need a reasonable accommodation to participate or need more information please contact Susan Glassman, Extension Educator, Nutrition & Wellness, University of Illinois Extension at 815-224-0889.

Extension offices are located in Princeton, Ottawa, Henry, and in Oglesby on the IVCC campus. The Mission of University of Illinois Extension is to provide practical education you can trust to help people, businesses and communities solve problems, develop skills and build a better future. University of Illinois Extension provides equal opportunities in programs and employment.
