A Marion County 4-H member led all scores in the Illinois 4-H State Poultry Judging Contest held Aug. 7 in Springfield during the Illinois State Fair. Twenty youth from eight Illinois counties participated for the right to advance to national competition.
Dennis Wollin was the high point winner in the senior division, followed by Adam Kloppe, Sangamon County, second; Connor McCleverty, Will County, third; Macy Donoho, Marion County, fourth; and Lydia Oker, Kendall County; fifith.
In the junior division, Will County 4-H member Liam McCleverty placed first, followed by Chloe Owens, Marion County, second; Rachel Dickson, Kendall County, third; Cole Wheeler, Kendall County, fourth; and Lorelai Rose, Marion County, fifth.
Marion County took the team award in the senior division, and Will County earned top spot in the junior team contest.
The contest is coordinated by Ken Koelkebeck, University of Illinois Animal Sciences professor. National competitors are supported by the Illinois 4-H Foundation.
