Michelle Berg is an Extension Educator in Natural Resources, Environment, and Energy serving in Calhoun, Cass, Greene, Morgan, and Scott counties. Berg works through a partnership with the McCully Heritage Project in Kampsville, where she conducts environmental and agroforestry programming. Berg leads programs on native woodland plants, winter tree identification, invasive species control, prehistoric Native American plant use and ethnobotany, maple syrup production, shiitake mushroom production, backyard composting, and vermicomposting.
Berg has a Masters of Public Administration with a concentration in Cultural Resource Management from the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville; and a B.A. in Sociology and Anthropology from Truman State University, Kirksville, Mo. She completed the Agroforestry Academy conducted by the University of Missouri Center for Agroforestry and has a Graduate Certificate of Professional Development in Horticulture from the University of Illinois. She worked as an archaeologist for nearly two decades at sites in Iowa, Illinois, Missouri, and Arkansas.
Berg is a member of the Illinois Tree Farm Committee, a Board member for the Southwest Illinois Wild Ones chapter; a member of the Association for Natural Resource Extension Professionals, and the Environmental Education Association of Illinois. She has served with the University of Illinois Extension since 2008.
