This 4-hour virtual class is part of the Beginning Forest Landowner Short Course.  The virtual class covers forest management and management planning for different goals. This class will be led by forestry experts and provide the knowledge necessary to begin managing your forested land.  

Virtual Class Agenda, September 11, 2023

  • 1-2pm – Introduction to Forest Management, Hank Stelzer, University of Missouri
  • 2-3pm – Forest Management for Wildlife, Adam Janke, Iowa State University
  • 3-4pm – Timber Harvesting, Lenny Farlee, Purdue University 
  • 4-5pm – Forest Management Plans, Chris Evans, University of Illinois

The full course also include a choice of three field days held throughout the state.  The field days will offer an opportunity to see forest practices in the field and learn more about forest management in a hands-on setting.   You need not attend the virtual course to attend the field-day.

October 28th - 9:30am - 3:15pm
Topics covered - invasive plants, prescribed fire, chainsaw milling demo, managed forest tour
