apples

Join Washington County 4-H for a fun, hands-on exploration of one of fall's favorite fruits! Youth will discover apples through engaging STEM, nutrition, and agriculture activities at the Okawville Farmers Market. Participants will sample different apple varieties, practice measuring skills while making a simple apple snack, investigate apple seeds, and create a take-home apple seed packet while learning how seeds become plants.

This workshop is the first program in the 4-H Market Makers Series, a hands-on journey that introduces youth to gardening, baking, art, and entrepreneurship. During the workshop, participants will explore apple-inspired products they could create for a future 4-H Youth Market Day and make one apple-themed item to take home. From crafts and artwork to recipe mixes and other creative products, youth will begin discovering how a simple farm product can become something unique to create, share, or sell.

Throughout the series, participants will have opportunities to grow plants from seed, create baked goods and handmade items, and learn basic marketing, pricing, and customer service skills. The series will culminate with a 4-H Youth Market Day, where youth can put their skills into action by showcasing and selling their creations while gaining confidence, leadership, and real-world business experience.
