You can see that the plants in the containers vary with the amount of sun each area gets during the day. Morning sun, full sun, late afternoon sun, and shade. Containers are changed with the seasons as well. Need to be watered often. They are fertilized with half-strength fertilizer weekly, which produces the best results. They can contain edibles, vines, foliage, perennials, succulents, and annuals, of course.
Use a filler, a thriller, and a spiller in a container.
Thrillers are tall, bold plants that are the focal point of the container. If the container is viewed from the front, the thriller goes in the back. If it is seen from all sides, thrillers go in the middle. Examples of thrillers are grasses and salvia.
Fillers are medium-sized plants. They take up space around the thriller. You can use one or several types of fillers. Examples of fillers are euphorbia, lantana, and heuchera.
Spillers are plants that hang, or spill, over the rim of the container, in front of the fillers. Examples of spillers are bacopa, ivy, sweet potato vine, and calibrachoa.
