Fieldcrest, Henry, Midland, and Putnam County schools participated in an Embryology unit through Marshall-Putnam Ag in the Classroom. Over the course of 21 days, students patiently waited for the chicks to hatch. A huge thank you to Saratoga Homestead for providing the fertilized eggs! Kits were provided with instructional material including chicken-related stories, hands-on activities, and chicken life cycle posters.
Once the chicks hatched they were temporarily housed in warm boxes provided with food and water. Students and staff enjoyed watching the chicks grow. Chicks now have been placed in new homes.
Incubation equipment and educational material throughout the counties were provided by the Marshall-Putnam Extension Ag in the Classroom program through University of Illinois Extension.
