Explore the Holy Boulders area with "the largest concentration of boulders in Southern Illinois" according to the Illinois Climbers Association that owns and stewards the property. This hike will be co-led by Kevin Rohling, Extension Specialist, and Kim Rohling, Extension Educator, and is a collaborative hike offered by the Shawnee Group of the Sierra Club and Illinois Extension.
We'll meet at the new parking lot ("House Boulders Parking Lot") at 37.60941, -89.40883 (note: use the GPS point, this is a new parking lot almost a mile south of the access trail on Google Maps) at 9:30 AM. While the main attraction is the rock climbing, the area is also of interest to hikers and naturalists alike. We'll have the opportunity to see spring wildflowers and migrating songbirds as we take in the rocky landscape. The hike will be around 4 miles round-trip. Please dress appropriately for the weather and bring a water and a snack if desired. Sorry, no pets allowed.
Please contact Kevin Rohling (krohling@illinois.edu or 618-695-3383 office) for questions or to request reasonable accommodation in advance of the event.
