Join us for a prescribed fire training at Dixon Springs Agricultural Center (Please note: 11/15 is the backup date in case weather conditions are more favorable for live fire). Co-led by Kevin Rohling, Illinois Extension Specialist in Forest Management and Ecology, and Zach Stawicki, Coordinator of the Southern Illinois Prescribed Burn Association. We'll walk participants through a burn plan with discussion of how each section is developed. We'll also delve into weather tools and apps used to monitor weather on the fireline, and we'll demonstrate different firing techniques and how they might be changed depending on the circumstances. Weather permitting, we'll demonstrate these tools and techniques while burning the demonstration forest management units.
If you would like to participate in the live fire demonstration, please wear non-synthetic clothing, such as cotton or wool, and full-leather boots.
