Youth across the county are invited to build new skills and gain hands-on experience through two exciting upcoming 4-H educational programs: a Livestock Photography Workshop and 4-H Cooking 101 class.

The Livestock Photography Workshop will be led by Maggie Goodson of MJ Imaging. This engaging session will focus on helping youth capture show-ring worthy livestock photos while learning practical techniques that can be used at home, in the barn, or on show day. The workshop is on May 21 at 6 p.m. at the Bond County Fairgrounds in Greenville.

Participants will explore key photography skills such as working safely with livestock, using natural lighting and flattering angles, and capturing candid, story-driven moments. The workshop emphasizes hands-on learning and is ideal for youth interested in improving their livestock photography—no professional equipment required.

“All skill levels are welcome,” organizers say. “Participants can use smartphones, making this workshop accessible and practical for everyone.”

The workshop is open to youth ages 8 and up (as of September 1, 2025). Space is limited, and while there is no cost to attend, registration is required by May 15. https://4h.zsuite.org/external-event-registration/46088

In addition, youth can register for the 4-H Cooking 101, a three-day, hands-on learning experience designed to build confidence in the kitchen. The program will be held June 29 through July 1, from 9 to 11 a.m. each day, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Greenville.

Participants will learn essential cooking skills, including measuring ingredients, following recipes, and safely using kitchen tools. In addition, youth will gain knowledge about nutrition and food safety while preparing simple recipes each day.

The Cooking 101 class is open to 4-H youth ages 8–18 (as of September 1, 2025). The program is free, but space is limited, and advance registration is required. https://4h.zsuite.org/external-event-registration/48754
