New Staff Orientation (NSO) - In Person
- Who: All permanent employees.
- Timeframe to Complete: First six months of employment.
- What:This quarterly, on-campus event introduces new staff to Extension's mission, values, and history while fostering a collaborative environment. Participants will explore their strengths, learn how they can positively impact Extension's work, and experience the U of I campus. New staff will also have the opportunity to obtain their I-Card.

Academic Professional Essential Training - AP field staff must complete all four quarterly training sessions within two years of employment. The series covers Program Planning and Assessment, Facilitation, Meaningful and Engaging Learning Experiences, and Community Partnerships.

Have you completed the orientation and only need the Academic Professional topics? Use the links above to sign up for APETS only.
This training takes place the day after the quarterly New Staff Orientation and is tailored for EPCs involved in volunteer management. This program will equip you with essential skills in communication, conflict resolution, onboarding volunteers, and volunteer management systems. Additionally, they will gain skills in meeting facilitation and group dynamics to lead more effective and engaging sessions. While some EPC roles may not align with this training, the decision to participate rests with the supervisor. This training is intended to be completed once during the onboarding process, but EPCs who have completed onboarding may attend with the approval of their Unit Director.

Onboarding Course
Welcome to Extension is an onboarding space designed to give you essential information about working at the University of Illinois as a member of Illinois Extension. This course is designed to introduce new Extension staff to our organization. In addition to an introduction to Extension’s history, vision, and purpose, new staff will learn about each program area, employee benefits, I.T. support, branding, and organizational structure.
All new employees are expected to complete this course within six weeks of beginning employment.

Welcome to Extension Onboarding course.
Go to Learn @ Illinois Extension
1. Scroll to the bottom and select the "University of Illinois Staff Login" button
- If you have not yet logged into any university sites, you will be asked to login with your NetID and password
- If you have already logged into a university site, you will be logged into the Learn @ Illinois Extension site
2. Once logged into the site, since it is your first time there, you will need to fill in your first and last name (required) and any other information you would like to provide (optional).
3. Confirm your account information by selecting the "Update profile" button at the bottom.
4. Upon updating your profile, you will be taken to the enrollment page for the course.
5. Enter the onboarding key "UIE2023" and select "enroll me"
