Southern Region Shooting Sports Instructor Field Day

Notes on the Event Schedule Change

The impact of the COVID-19 (novel coronavirus) continues to create uncertainty and concern both globally and here in our community. Following Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines, the University of Illinois has implemented social-distancing protocols that impact all university events. Illinois Extension, as the outreach program of the university, aligns with all policies related to public health and safety.

Effective immediately, ALL face-to-face events organized by Illinois Extension have been cancelled, suspended, or transitioned to online delivery. This will apply to all events previously scheduled through May 31, 2020.

This plan may change based on guidance and direction provided by the local public health department. Look for specific information about other cancellations and postponements on our website (look for communications updated regularly on our homepage). We are working to support all Illinois families at this time. We appreciate your understanding as we navigate this situation.

Illinois 4-H is seeking adult volunteers to train local youth interested in learning about shooting sports.  More than 3,600 4-H members participate in one of the five 4-H shooting sports disciplines, and projects teach the responsible and safe handling of firearms.

The program relies heavily on adult volunteers who are willing to lead in the shooting disciplines and management of the local county programs. To be a certified volunteer, one must complete the National 4-H Shooting Sports training.

The southern region will host the first of three state-wide field days on Saturday, March 28, at the Tombstone Gun Range and Training Center in Marion, IL. Local Extension offices can assist with the cost of the certification training, which includes a nine-hour field day and three hours of online training. Shooting sports discipline options include archery, coordinator, pistol, rifle, shotgun, and hunting/wildlife.

Those interested in participating in the field day must contact their local Extension office to register and ensure they have completed the 4-H volunteer screening process.

University of Illinois Extension provides equal opportunities in programs and employment. If you need a reasonable accommodation to participate, please contact your local Extension office. Early requests are strongly encouraged to allow sufficient time for meeting your access needs.
