Have you ever wondered how a tree grows?

Physiology of woody plants is a big topic and you can find yourself diving into countless rabbit holes. Let’s start with some of the basics. What are the different parts of the tree and how do they function to support it? How does water move in a tree? How do trees deal with wounds? We’ll discuss some of these common questions to provide you a good basic understanding of tree physiology which can also guide management decisions when working with trees.

Presenter: Taryn Bieri; Coordinator of the Beginning Forest Landowner Program
Taryn earned a bachelor's degree in forestry from Southern Illinois University Carbondale, specializing in wildlife habitat management and conservation. She is pursuing a master's in forestry from SIUC with a specialization in restoration ecology. She has worked in natural resource education and conservation since 2018. She assists in Extension research and is the project coordinator for the Southern Illinois Beginning Forest Landowner Program.  

Forestry Spring Webinar Series

Just in time for spring, the Illinois Extension Forestry team will lead a five-session webinar series for woodland owners on Wednesdays starting April 5. The webinar is free and registration is required.
