DUQUOIN, Ill. – 4-H encourages children to be themselves by exploring their interests and choosing a path that leads to happiness. For many youth, the highlight of their time in 4-H is showcasing projects during fair season. Through a partnership with Illinois Extension and the DuQuoin State Fair, 4-H members now have an additional opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge and skills during a regional showcase at the 2024 DuQuoin State Fair. Community members, friends and family, and the general public are encouraged to attend and support our local youth.
During the general show, 4-H youth will be judged in a variety of project areas like aerospace, visual arts, photography, robotics, food and nutrition, and more. Sharing information about their projects with judges is a great opportunity for youth to develop communication skills. During livestock shows, 4-H members showed the animals they raised and cared for over the past year. Livestock showmanship helped foster confidence in communicating knowledge and experience as youth spoke directly to each judge about the health and care of their livestock.
