Learn about no-till vegetable production at twilight meeting

WATERLOO, Ill. - University of Illinois Extension is excited to be the host for the third of four twilight meetings at the Baebler Education Farms in Waterloo on Monday, July 12, 2021, starting at 6 p.m. University of Illinois Extension Educators Bronwyn Aly, Katie Bell, and Nathan Johanning have been partnering with area farms over the past seven years to provide evening “twilight meetings” to highlight and demonstrate diverse farming enterprises across southern Illinois.

Throughout the evening, local educators will discuss cover crop research conducted at the educational farm on tomato and pepper production in bareground, plasticulture, and no-till production systems. They will also share information on management and equipment needs to plant and transplant in a cover crop/no-till system. There will be some demonstration plots on no-till direct-seeding with green beans and sweet corn. Equipment will be on display as a part of the discussion including a cover crop roller/crimper, no-till transplanter and a no-till planter. There are many opportunities to benefit from cover crops no matter the production system!  Anyone involved or interested in local food production or learning more about farming in our region is encouraged and invited to attend.
