Calling all young bird enthusiasts! Join University of Illinois Extension and the Jo Daviess Conservation Foundation for an exciting Birding 101 program for kids ages 8 to 18. Whether you’re a budding ornithologist or simply curious about our feathered friends, this event is for you.

 What to Expect

Learn the Binocular Basics: Discover how to use binoculars properly. Explore Field Marks and Behaviors: Identify key features and behaviors that help distinguish different bird species. Gain a Confidence Boost: Participants will leave feeling more assured in their birding skills. Embark on an Outdoor Exploration: Reconnect with nature and explore the natural wonders of Jo Daviess County.

 “Jo Daviess Conservation Foundation is dedicated to fostering the next generation of land stewards and wants to build the love and excitement that kids have for spending time out of doors and discovering the natural wonders that can be found right here in Jo Daviess County,” states Hillary Holt, Director of Education and Outreach at the Jo Daviess Conservation Foundation.

Bring your own binoculars if you have them. If not, don’t worry—there will be binoculars available for all attendees. Participants aged 14 and up are also encouraged to join the Spring Bird Count on May 4th. Additional details will be provided at the event.
