Create your own homemade soap.

Do you ever wonder what’s in a bar of soap and how it’s made? Looking at soap ingredient labels, it looks complicated! But soap is made with a few simple ingredients that you can find in your local grocery and hardware stores! Join us for a free program to learn how to make soap using the same timeless methods our ancestors likely used.

Program topics include:

  • History and fun facts about soap
  • Safety equipment and soap making supplies
  • Soap making methods (cold process, hot process, melt and pour)
  • Building a recipe using simple ingredients from around the house
  • Fats and oils and their soaping qualities
  • Using a soap making calculator
  • “What can go wrong?”
  • Reading soap ingredient labels
  • Storage and packaging

The program is free, but we ask that you register. Visit go.illinois.edu/HomesteadingSoap or call (618) 687-1727 to reserve your spot.
