In recent years, many efforts have concentrated on protecting our natural pollinators and building supporting habitats for them. In this series, we will give an overview of who our pollinators are, how they fit into our environment, what plants you can bring into your properties to support them, and how you can build shelters for them.
Session One - Pollinators of Illinois: a survey of the butterflies and bees commonly found in Illinois, their names, and how to identify them.
Session Two - A year's worth of pollinator plants. Many people have started to choose plants for their gardens that lure pollinators and support them. Pollinators need beneficial plants for most of the year. This will be a month-by-month look at the best plants that bloom each month and how much pollen or nectar they produce. The goal of this meeting will be for everyone attending to find one new plant that they can add to stretch the pollen/nectar available in their gardens.
Session Three - Building a pollinator Garden – the best ways to plant, space, and grow pollinator plants to create a pollinator garden.
