Learn how to grow your home baking skills and add more variety to your everyday meals at our Beginning Sourdough program! Making your own sourdough bread is a wonderful skill to have when creating dishes at home. From fancy loaves and English muffins to weekly sandwich bread, you can help add an abundance of flavor and confidence to your meals. There are a few things to learn when getting started, so we are bringing in local baker and farmers market seller Sonja Lallemand. Sonja has many years of experience in the field of agriculture and selling added-value goods like sourdough bread, cakes, shrubs, and other bottled goods.

In this class, you will learn:
  • Understanding the chemistry of breads
  •  Creating  your own baking timeline
  •  Understanding baker’s percentage or ‘Bakers’ Math’
  •  Proofing, shaping and finally baking a great loaf of sourdough bread

Each participant will leave with their own starter! Register now at go.illinois.edu/sourdough.
