Franklin County 4-H alum receives scholarship and continues tradition of leadership

BENTON, Ill. – Andrea Miller, of Franklin County, is the recipient of the 2021 Deb Stocker Illinois Youth Leadership Team (YLT) Scholarship. The scholarship was established by alumni members of the YLT who valued their time serving with this group and had the desire to provide financial assistance to other members as they advance their education efforts.

Miller has held many leadership roles during her time with Franklin County 4-H and beyond. She has served as a teen teacher, speaking for Illinois 4-H representative, Franklin County 4-H Federation vice president, and vice chairman for YLT. Miller is serving her third year on the YLT.

"Without being a part of YLT, I believe I would have missed out on the chance to develop a skill that is so often neglected in a person's upbringing and education: a growth mindset. YLT has taught me the benefit of grit, vulnerability, and effective methods to create spaces where individuals' voices can be heard and elevated," said Miller.

Miller currently majoring in Health Management and Accounting. She plans to pursue a master's degree in public accounting before attending law school. She is the daughter of Lisa Gariepy Miller & Mark Miller.
