Youth Learn About Weather During Recent Workshop

PINCKNEYVILLE, Ill.— Local youth spent their President’s Day learning more about the weather during a fun workshop in Perry County. Guest speaker, Jacie Brianne from the WSIL-TV3 meteorologist team, answer weather-related questions and discussed the field of meteorology.

Brianne explained how weather forecasts help kids plan what to wear and whether weekend activities should be indoors or outdoors. When severe weather approaches, meteorologists serve what is perhaps their most important function. She shared tips on how to spot severe weather and how to stay safe when it occurs.

Following her presentation, Local Master Gardeners led hands-on activities teaching youth how to make their own weather instruments such as a barometer, anemometer, wind vane and Beaufort scale.
