Connecting farming communities with agricultural experts.

Illinois Extension is excited host their annual Agronomy Field Day at Ewing Demonstration Center on Thursday, July 25, at 9 a.m. with a lunch to follow. The event will feature various educators and campus faculty as they provide best management practices for local growers.

Ewing Demonstration Center has served the agricultural community of southern Illinois since 1910.  Research at the center includes various trials for corn, soybeans, sorghum, wheat, and cover crops.  The center has featured no-till research and demonstration plots for more than 50 years as it offers representative growing conditions for southern Illinois.

The event will feature the following speakers:

  • Economic outlook and trends impacting corn and soybeans

  • Conducting on-farm precision experiments with the U of I Extension and the Data-Intensive Farm Management Project 
    David Bullock, PhD, University of Illinois Center for the Economics of Sustainability
  • Managing diseases in field crops: Current status in Illinois
    Boris Camiletti, PhD, University of Illinois Crop Science
  • Updating recommendations on P and K management for southern Illinois

  • A yearlong assessment of soil health and nutrient losses in soybean production in southern Illinois

12:15 - 1:15 p.m.    Lunch

Ewing Demonstration Center is about 20 minutes south of Mt. Vernon, located at 16132 N. Ewing Rd in Ewing, IL. The center is on the north edge of the village of Ewing, north of the Ewing Grade School. Additional signage will be posted near the center.
