Enjoy nature during tree identification walks at Riverside Park

MURPHYSBORO, Ill. –Did you know 14 different tree species can be found at Riverside Park in Murphysboro? Explore them all during a series of tree identification walks in May, June, and October.

Join Master Gardeners Kevin Ahlfield and Norma Allen to learn the key ID characteristics of these species and how to use a dichotomous key to identify trees. Learn how to prevent urban tree damage to protect your backyard trees and some diseases or pests associated with these tree species. Series dates and times include:

  • May 1 at 5 p.m.
  • June 12 at 10 a.m.
  • Oct. 9 at 4:30 p.m.

Riverside Park is located at 2610 West Riverside Park, southwest of Murphysboro. Participants should park near Chep Kessel Field. The program is free and participants can register at (618) 687-1727 or go.illinois.edu/RPTreeID. If the programs are canceled due to bad weather, a rain date is scheduled one week from the originally scheduled program date.
