PETERSBURG, Ill. – 4-H members earned awards during the local 2025 4-H Shows by demonstrating knowledge and skills they gained this year. Menard County 4-H members showed 93 live animal exhibits at the Menard County Fair and 42 general project exhibits, and 1 entry at the Logan, Menard and Sangamon Dog Show during shows held at the Sangamon County Fairgrounds in New Berlin on June 28-29.
Every year 4-H members select projects that interest them in the categories of Animal Science, Creative Arts, Environmental Sciences, Civic Engagement, Food Systems, Healthy Living, Career Leadership, and Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM). After choosing a project, members learn about that topic on their own and then demonstrate what they have learned by exhibiting their work in the county 4-H shows.
“New for 2025, the first annual 4-H Master Showmanship Contest was held at the Menard County Fair. Participants competed by showing swine, sheep and beef in a back-to-back competition with the Champion being promoted to represent Menard County at the Illinois State Fair,” said Stacie Skelton, Menard County 4-H Program Coordinator. “Thank you to the Menard County Farm Bureau, Whitcomb Club Lambs, Wankel Farms/Channel Seeds and Menard County 4-H for making this contest possible.”
