The 2026 4-H Fun Day is Saturday, March 21, 2026, from 9:00 am until 12:30 pm at Prince of Peace Church, 2336 Freeport Road, Rockton, IL. A morning of hands-on learning and fun – our workshops will have you DOING, THINKING, and CREATING!  This day is geared toward ALL youth ages 8-18 – grab a friend and be ready to have fun!
 
  • Workshops start at 8:20 a.m. – Please arrive and check in between 8:00 - 8:15 a.m.
  • Many of the items created can be shown at the 4-H General Projects Day!!
  • Registration fees: In lieu of the $3 fee, please bring a bag of dog or cat food (this will be donated to local animal shelters)
  • Please bring an old T-shirt for the Community Service Project.

SESSION 1 - 8:30 to 10:30 a.m.

A. Loop Weaving - Come and have fun weaving loops to make your own potholder.  Learn how to create your own designs and make a finished project. Extra costs: $10 for the kit

B. Recreation Games - Are you in charge of recreation for your 4-H club? Do you just need to get up and start moving? Come and learn some fun recreational games that you can do with your 4-H club members. Costs: Free 

C. Barnyard to Backyard: Animal Care Basics - Discover what it takes to care for animals from barnyard to backyard! Youth will explore what animals need to stay healthy and thrive. Through fun, hands-on activities, participants will compare the similarities and differences between caring for livestock and small pets, including daily care, observation skills, and responsible animal ownership. Costs: Free 

SESSION 2 - 9:30 to 10:20 a.m.

A. Running Free: Health Rocks - Ready to see what impaired really feels like? Join this session where you’ll try impairment goggles that simulate the effects of alcohol, marijuana, and prescription misuse. Through fun, hands-on activities, you’ll discover how substances affect your balance, reaction time, and decision-making—and why staying substance-free keeps you truly in control.  Don’t miss this eye-opening experience! Cost: Free

C. Junk Journaling - Take envelopes and advertising materials we throw away and turn them into a great little book. We will have all kinds of materials at the workshop for you to transform into an amazing book.  You may bring your own materials with you to create your journal. 

D. Aerospace/Rockets - Everything you need to know about rockerty. Learn how to select a rocket kit, where to purchase it, how to launch a rocket, and the steps to successfully build a rocket.  You’ll also learn parts of a rocket, the function of each part, and how a rocket works from launch to landing.  You will even start working on building your rocket. 

SESSION 3 - 10:30 to 11:20 a.m.

A. Cookie Decorating - Here is a great way to increase your decorating skills for your next party or family event.  Learn which icing tip makes flowers, and learn the best way to frost your cookie.  In this session, you are going to learn tips on the best way to decorate a cookie.  You will practice on one cookie and get to take the other one home or eat it.  Extra cost: $25 for supplies and cookies

B. Cardmaking Fun -  Express yourself and your thoughts through a card.  Here’s a chance to make a vintage holiday or a “funky” card for your friend, family member, or even yourself! Extra cost: $5 

C. Edible Art Display - Join this session for a hands-on, creative experience! Learn basic knife skills and turn fresh fruit into a colorful, edible masterpiece. Come explore how healthy food can be fun, artistic, and delicious!

D.  Rabbits and Small Pets - Please come and see what it would be like to show a rabbit or small pet at the Winnebago County 4-H Rabbit & Small Pet Show.  For rabies, we’ll talk about what to expect at the show, what you need to do ahead of the show, such as tattoos, toenails & general care.  For small pets, you’ll be asked questions about your pet & what you do to keep it healthy. If you love and care for your pet, you nailed it.  We’ll talk about showmanship, costume class, and the Fur and Feather Sale.  

SESSION 4 - 11:30 to Noon

Community Service Project - Join us to make a dog/cat toy from an old t-shirt.  We will be donating our finished items to the local animal shelters
 We will have t-shirts available, or feel free to bring a couple from home.  The more we make, the more we can donate
