Nimblewill, Muhlenergia schreberi, is a native warm-season grass typically found in slightly shaded, disturbed habitats. It is common in lawns. This grass is relatively short, typically staying under 1 foot tall. It tends to sprawl over the ground and re-root from nodes along its stems. It has short leaves that are held perpendicular to the stem, resembling rungs on a ladder. It has a short hairy ligule that can be found at the base of the leaf blades.
When it flowers, Nimblewill produces a panicle inflorescence, a branched flowering cluster, although it often resembles a spike because the branches are held close to the stem of the inflorescence. The small spikelets are awned.
