Certified Food Protection Manager Class offered in Freeport

The Illinois Department of Public Health requires retail food establishments to have a person-in-charge or a food establishment manager obtain an American National Standards Institute (ANSI) accredited Certified Food Protection Manager (CFPM) certification. This requirement helps to ensure the safety of consumers when eating away from home.

Those receiving this certification have specialized training regarding the safe handling, preparation, and storage of food to help prevent foodborne related illnesses. The certificate is valid for five years from the exam date and must be retaken once a certificate expires.

University of Illinois Extension will offer a web-based Certified Food Protection Manager course from 9 a.m. to noon, on November 30, December 1 and 3. This online course will be held over a period of three days, with the exam given in-person on the fourth day. Participants must be present for all three days to be eligible to take the exam. This course will be taught using Zoom, and participants will need a web-camera.

On Friday, December 4, participants will take the exam in-person at Highland Community College Student Conference Center, 2998 West Pearl City Road, Freeport, IL, building H, room 201A, Use parking lot A.

There is a $100 program fee to cover this educational session. This fee covers the purchase of the book, educational materials, and examination. Preregistration is required due to limited space.
