Empowering Tomorrow: Innovative youth education programs offered in Lee County

youth giving each other the high five

In the dynamic landscape of education, fostering a passion for learning among youth is paramount for their personal and intellectual growth. Recognizing the importance of providing diverse and engaging opportunities beyond traditional classroom settings, 4-H is thrilled to announce two opportunities tailored for youth in partnership with Sauk Valley Community College.

Through Blooms & Paper: Mixed Media Art, youth will explore techniques utilizing canvas, scrapbook paper, and pen to create floral compositions.  Whether a seasoned artist or a beginner, this course will explore the world of mixed media art, where every stroke of the pen and piece of paper brings your imagination to bloom. Supplies are included.  Blooms & Paper will occur on October 2nd from 5:30 – 7:00 p.m. for youth ages 8 -18.

While our lives may be constantly on the move, and the convenience of having so much at our fingertips in digital form, there is a great deal of benefit to putting pen to paper. Bullet Journaling presents benefits in helping organize life tasks, thoughts, and feelings, help identify stressors, help process emotions and intrusive or avoidant thoughts, gain insight and confidence, and promote empathy. Not only does bullet journaling allow for recording goals, achievements, thoughts, and reflections, but it can do so in a creative way! Supplies are included. Bullet Journaling will occur on November 6th from 5:30 – 6:30 p.m. for ages 13 and up.

Both sessions will occur at Sauk Valley Community College, 173 IL-2, Dixon, IL 61021. Register online. Space is limited.  Questions regarding either session can be directed to Danielle Gapinski, 4-H Youth Development Educator, at 815-632-3611 or des85@illinois.edu
